Good Evening Family and Friends,
God is good, and His strength endures forever! After a flawless trip to Guatemala, we arrived safely last evening around 8:30pm (local time). I believe I can speak for us all when saying it was a blessing to be off an airplane, and out of the bus after 18 hours of travel:) And if you've ever traveled from Guatemala City to Huehuetenango on a bus before, you definitely know what I mean! Thankfully, God granted us rest, and renewed our heavy eyes.
This morning after a delicious breakfast at our hotel, we made the short ride to Fundacion Salvacion! For 10 of the 14 of us, the anticipation of returning to see the beautiful faces we left a year ago was unbelievable! For the 4 who had never been, the anticipation of seeing all these beautiful faces that they had heard of was exciting! And again, God is good! We drove in expecting to see 100+ faces smiling, yelling, and chasing the bus, but instead (and for some of us a little sad!) we found the children sitting in their Bible classes listening to stories, making crafts, singing songs, and sharing in a meal with their friends. It was a beautiful reminder of how great our God is, and how He takes care of us all, big or small, American or Guatemalan, in English and in Spanish. While the kids were in Bible classes, we were forced to wait to hug, and share in the joy of the excitement of our arrival but the time did come, and we were reunited with our friends!
Since to today is Saturday, we were able to spend a majority of our day at the orphanage playing with the children. We did manage to install the 5 new swings we brought with us. The kids were super excited to have new swings, and I believe they were occupied the rest of the day until we left.
We were able to take a short trip to the site where the bi-lingual school is being built, and the progress is encouraging. The foundation is laid, the brick walls are going up, and you can clearly see the layout of the building. Please continue to pray that the work is completed in a timely fashion as they hope to open the school in January 2013.
This evening we ate at a local restaurant that served Italian cuisine. It was nice to be out and about the city, and see life happening all around us. We then returned to the hotel, had devotions, and made plans for tomorrow. We will be traveling up in the mountains to have a VBS with many of the Mayan children who live there, and will then have more time at the orphanage with our kids tomorrow afternoon.
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers, and please continue. We covet your prayers as we continue on our mission to spread the Word and the love of Christ with those whom we meet. We will update again tomorrow night, so be sure to check back!
Adios for now, Amigos.
Lane, Anna, and Team
