Hello Family and Friends,
We've had another fun filled day in Huehue. This morning began with devotions, and then we went out to breakfast at a cafe in town. We sat in a beautiful courtyard with trees and flowers all around, the sun beginning to shine through the foliage while we feasted on delicious meals and drank incredible Guatemalan coffee. It was the perfect way to start a Monday.
After breakfast we stopped at a few stores for paint, primer, brushes, and sand paper. Our morning work project was sanding six of the ten cribs that we purchased for the new nursery. The craftsmanship on the cribs is beautiful, and now that they are all sanded down, we will primer and paint them all throughout the week. We also spent time cutting the crib matresses down to size in order for them to fit the cribs nicely. Many people helped in cutting the foam, and then in stitching the cover material back together. It was tedious hand work but it will make all the difference in the world. We're excited to see the final product after all is said and done.
We returned to the hotel for lunch, and practiced our VBS skit afterward. We then had a few minutes to relax before heading back to the orphanage. When we returned, we all gathered together to sing songs as a group. Each song has motions, and our time together worshipping is always a highlight for us all. God is so good, and we know He delights in hearing our voices raised to heaven. After our music, we performed our skit. We're focusing on Hebrews 12:1, and our theme for the week is related to the Olympics, and competition/games. We had a fun time acting out the story today and the kids are looking forward to seeing where the story takes us tomorrow. We then broke into our groups, and began our VBS rotation of story, crafts, snack time, and games. We made adjustments as we went along, and things turned out well. We were reminded of the great difference between the attention span of a 3 or 4 year old, and that of a 10-15 year old! We will be adding some "fun" downtime activities for our young ones tomorrow to avoid wanderers!
We enjoyed dinner at the hotel this evening, while watching the Tigers on ESPN. It felt like a little piece of home here in Huehue. After dinner we traveled back to the orphanage for movie night, which consisted of The Lorax in Spanish with English subtitles, popcorn, and juice. The movie and treats were a hit, and the children loved sitting on our laps while watching the film.
We shared devotions when we returned from the orphanage and made plans for tomorrow's activities. God has blessed us thus far, and we know that His blessings will continue to rain down on us all throughout the remainder of our trip. We serve such a powerful, loving God, and for that we thank Him.
Until tomorrow,
Lane, Anna, and Team
