Sunday - August 5, 2012

Hola Amigos!

What a beautiful day in Huehuetenango, Guatemala! Our Sabbath proved to be worshipful, restful, and incredibly enjoyable - Praise the Lord!

Our day began early with breakfast and devotions, followed by a drive to the top of a mountain to bring the Word of God to those who live high on the mountain side. The view was stunning, and though quite foggy, the sun shone through illuminating the beauty of God's creation. The air was thin, the sun extremely warm, and the many children who ran out from their homes were excited to have visitors! Antonio read the story of Jesus' birth to the children, (probably 20 in total) Ally passed out crayons, color pages, markers, pencils, and stickers to the children, and other gifts that we had brought. The children were so thankful, and their faces were shining with God's goodness.

After we left the lookout area, we drove about 30 minutes further to visit the village where Juan grew up. Juan is a team member of ours, who lived near Huehuetenango until he was 15 years old. He now resides in Grand Rapids, and works with John at Advantage Health as a medical assistant. Juan has not been back to Guatemala in 10 years, so seeing his village and his home was very meaningful, and he was thankful to share this with us.

After a delicious lunch at McDonald's, we returned to the orphanage to spend time with the kids. It was a beautiful afternoon, the sun shining, a nice breeze blowing, with laughter filling the air for hours! Many of us played futbol, kickball, volleyball, played on the swings, slides, and other equipment, and also colored many pictures. It was so nice to just relax and spend our Sunday with those that we hold so dear to our hearts.

Around dinner time we left the orphanage, returned to the hotel, showered, enjoyed a phenomenal dinner, and are now heading to devotions. We will make a plan for tomorrow, and make sure we have everything set for VBS in the afternoon. Tomorrow night is movie night, so we look forward to watching a film is Spanish :)

In His Love,
Lane, Anna, and Team
