Tuesday - August 7, 2012

Greetings,

Today was another good day! We began with breakfast at 7:30am, followed by devotions which were lead by Juan. Juan reminded us of how important it is to put our trust in the Lord, and in His word. It was a great way to start our day.

We finished priming the six cribs this morning, and tomorrow will be working to sand and prime the four remaining cribs that were delivered this evening to the orphanage. We also hope to start the final paint coat on a couple of the cribs tomorrow as well. It is exciting to see the progress we've made in two days! Several team members also cleaned out a classroom at the orphanage including the closet that was full of old books, and used notebooks. By the time the crew was finished, the classroom looked great, and was extremely clean. This evening after devotions we decided that we will also take the first steps in hanging a drop ceiling in the new nursery addition since that is a priority for the room.

Lunch was an amazing experience today - definitely a highlight of the week! Forty-four pizzas, and 17 3-liter bottles of soda were inhaled in a half hour period by roughly 100 people. We witnessed three and four year olds eating  four to five pieces of pizza, and older kids eating near seven or eight pieces. The kids do not get pizza and soda often, and their little belly's were full today! It was a blessing to serve the kids and staff, as we walked around with boxes and bottles making sure everyones' plates and cups were full at all times!

Today's VBS was excellent! Our skit was about Johnny (our main character) losing a race at the Olympic Games because he was distracted by his fame and pride when he should have been focused on the goal set before him. It was a nice reminder for us that so many things can distract us from God on daily basis, and how we must keep Him forefront in our minds, and live each minute to glorify Him in all that we do. The crafts for the day were cloth bracelets that the younger kids decorated with Sharpies and foam stickers, and dog tag necklaces that the older kids decorated with crosses made of  beads and jewels. Our snack consisted of yummy cookies and juice. We had to modify the play section of our VBS due to heavy rains that fell during that time, so the kids played Duck Duck Goose, and The Limbo indoors. The Limbo was a hit! :)

We enjoyed another wonderful dinner at the hotel this evening, followed by devotions lead by Kristy. Kristy's devotion reminded us that as children of Christ, we are called to show God's love to everyone we meet. We're now relaxing in our rooms and preparing for a good night's rest, one that we pray will rejuvenate our bodies, and minds for tomorrow.

We appreciate your prayers, and look forward to sharing more tomorrow!

Goodnight,
Lane, Anna, and Team
