Guatemala 8/4/14

Happy Early Monday Morning!! We left for the orphanage at 4:50 a.m. We served breakfast to the kids. They had cereal, (Frosted Flakes, Fruit Loops, and Chocolate Flakes) fresh fruit and juice. All the kids absolutely loved it and ate more than children their size should! They had about 4 plus helpings each!!

Some of the group had to go out and get construction supplies from the local market, which took several stops on the same street.  The supplies helped and will help us to install a fan in the bodega, fix some playground equipment and change filters in the water system.  The rest of us stayed and helped with laundry, played with the kids and cleaned up around the orphanage.

We came back to the hotel in the afternoon and had a lunch of rice, chicken, black beans, guacamole and tortillas.  After we got crafts ready for VBS and cleaned up from the work in the morning.  We then headed back to the orphanage to sing songs and dance with the kids.  Today the kids received backpacks to keep their weeks worth of VBS crafts, they also drew on the backpacks and colored.  After a heated game of futbol ensued with the kids beating us without much of a problem.

We left the orphanage after 6:00 and had dinner at a downtown restaurant called Don Juan, then maneuvered our way through the crowded streets of downtown Huehuetenango, arriving back at the hotel at around 8:00.  After we had devotions and shared out highlights from the day!  Today was a great and long day, now were going to bed!
